Press release from Randy Schultz; some of these really look like fun:
“Logee’s Introduces New Container Garden Plants for 2012
In celebration of its 120th year in business as America’s source for rare and tropical plants, Logee’s has introduced 49 new plants for 2012.
The new plants include a delightful fruiting plant called Changshou Kumquat (Fortunella obovata ‘Fukushu’), which is a Logee’s exclusive, and Orange Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus x splendidus), which boasts clusters of bright orange “lipstick” flowers.
“Container gardening and tropical plants offer the perfect way for homeowners to extend their living areas outdoors onto patios, balconies and porches,” said Byron Martin, a third-generation owner of Logee’s. “We are delighted to have helped to create America’s love affair with tropical and fruiting plants, and we look forward to another 120 years of providing new and exciting plants from all over the world.”
Since 1892, Logee’s has offered exotic plants for indoor and outdoor growing. The Logee’s catalog and website is known for its vast selection of tropical container plants, dwarf citrus trees, vines and climbing plants, flowering houseplants and other exotic plants. The family-owned company also operates Logee’s Greenhouses in Danielson, Connecticut, a destination greenhouse for thousands of gardeners throughout the Eastern United States.

Changshou Kumquat (Fortunella obovata ‘Fukushu’)
(catalog page 5)
The rare Changshou Kumquat is grown for its large juicy fruit. This small tree blooms with fragrant white flowers from May to September, and the fruit ripens year-round. Changshou’s pear-shaped fruit is larger than other kumquats, and it has a delectable flavor when you eat the whole fruit—peel and all. Kumquats are among the hardiest of citrus plants, and they tolerate short bursts of cold temperatures into the 20s F. Changshou is an outstanding container plant since it creates a lovely small tree with the added appeal of healthy, fresh fruit. These plants are self fertile, so only one plant is needed to produce fruit. Sold as a large plant in a 7-inch-long tree pot for $39.95. A Logee’s exclusive.
Orange Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus x splendidus) (catalog page 3)
This plant’s brilliant orange blooms are the first to arrive after a long winter, and the flowers burst forth with enough color to chase away the winter blues.
Orange Lipstick Plant has a long flowering season that lasts from spring through summer. Its fleshy green leaves and cascading stems make it perfect for a hanging basket. This strong grower is well adapted to the moderate light and lower humidity that’s common in most home environments. One plant in a 2.5-inch pot sells for $10.95.
Begonia ‘Ring of Fire’ (Begonia Rex hybrid)
(catalog page 37)
Over the years, Logee’s has become famous for its new begonia introductions. Begonia ‘Ring of Fire’ makes a dramatic statement with its colorful foliage.
The vibrant red rim and silver patterning is set against deep green veining. Its brilliance holds even as the leaves age, making this Rex hybrid a stunning houseplant. This vigorous begonia has a full and mounding form. Grow ‘Ring of Fire’ in partial light and let it dry out between waterings for best results. Each plant in a 2.5-inch pot sells for $10.95.
Chinese Yew Bonsai (Podocarpus hybrid)
(catalog page 39)
Slow growing and attractive in form, the Chinese Yew, or Podocarpus, Bonsai is an evergreen tree with pine-needle-like leaves held upright on lateral branches. This excellent bonsai specimen has a curved trunk and stiff symmetrical branches.
There are separate male and female flowers on the plant, and the tree develops fleshy, brightly colored yew-like fruits in fall. Grow in full to partial sun in slightly moist soil. Plants are 10-12 years old and are shipped in a 6-inch plastic bonsai pot. $39.95.
Dwarf Pink Flame of the Woods (Ixora taiwanensis ‘Dwarf Pink’)
(catalog page 16)
The Dwarf Pink Flame of the Woods blooms profusely as a sea of pink star-shaped flowers. The plant only grows 8-10 inches in height, so ‘Dwarf Pink’ is an excellent choice when window space is at a premium. The showy flower clusters appear in flushes year-round if this little gem is grown in bright light and warm temperatures. Fertilize it regularly to keep the waves of delicate pink flowers flowing. Each plant in a 4-inch pot sells for $14.95.
